Dedicated high acoustic pressure and ultrasonic deburring transducers, mid-February, Japan.

2011.01.17

A special vibrating element for ultrasonic deburring has been developed. It is a special deburring device that we have longed for.Fifteen years have passed since we developed the ultrasonic deburring and cleaning device.During this time, the transducer used has been a Langevin type with a 25 KHz 50 W piezoelectric element for ultrasonic cleaning with a diameter of 38 mm, two 5 mm pieces and a 45 mm sticking surface diameter. The piezoelectric transducers are densely arranged, with a power density of 2 W/cm2, and have been deburred. To further strengthen the piezoelectric element, four of these piezoelectric elements were made into a 100 W specification, realising 4 W/cm2, which was then used to remove casting sand. However, precision processing has shifted from metal to plastic, and mass production of one million units has increased with more delicate and precise processing. It is no longer possible to recruit young workers for manual deburring, which requires long hours and a lot of tension, and even in China, for example, where labour costs were supposed to be low, not only have labour costs risen rapidly, but there is now a job shortage.Of course, the shapes are not simple enough to be deburred by hand. The burrs themselves are smaller, and to remove them, a large positive and negative shock wave is required, as they are inversely proportional to each other. Therefore, ultrasonic deburring also needed to be more stable, automated and powerful. It was necessary to go beyond the limits of conventional cleaning elements.Blue Star R&D Ltd. has developed and successfully put into practical use a high acoustic pressure ultrasonic vibration element with a contact area of 58φ, 25 KHz, 100 W and 200 W, dedicated to deburring.Public trials will commence in mid-February 2011 at a new experimental centre in Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.Customers who are dissatisfied with conventional ultrasonic deburring and those who are not satisfied with other methods. We are happy to conduct tests on metal and plastic materials alike, so please contact us.In the course of this development, we would like to state our impressions. The sophistication of ultrasonic transducer applications has just begun. The stagnation of ultrasonic cleaning and ultrasonic application equipment in Japan seems to be a lie when looking at Asia as a whole.Ultrasonic deburring is finally entering an era of full-scale application.Stay tuned.
